How to Maintain Your “Forever Smile” After Invisalign or Braces Treatment

Dr. Karen Conn of Bryn Mawr Orthodontics explains how OrthoPulse can help reduce your braces or Invisalign treatment time

by Dr. Karen Conn, DMD, MS

Congratulations completing your treatment with Invisalign or braces!  You have worked hard to achieve the straight, beautiful smile you have always wanted. Now it is important to maintain your results, so that you can enjoy your new smile for years to come.

Here are a few tips for maintaining your smile post orthodontic treatment:

●     Wear your retainer as directed.

Almost all patients will receive a retainer after treatment.  Your retainer plays an essential role in keeping your teeth in their new positions.  Your orthodontist will typically recommend how long you need to wear your retainer each day.  Be sure to follow their instructions carefully.

●     Take care of your retainer.

Your retainer is an important investment, so be sure to take care of it.  Keep it clean and in a safe place when you are not wearing it.

●     Brush and floss your teeth regularly.

Good oral hygiene will keep your teeth healthy and your smile looking its best. Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss once a day.

●     See your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings.

Your dentist cleans your teeth during your regular appointments to keep them looking their best, and your dentist will also check your teeth to ensure there are no oral health issues that require further attention.

●     Avoid habits that can damage your teeth.  Make sure you avoid  chewing on hard objects, using your teeth as tools, and grinding your teeth.  If you grind your teeth, your dentist may recommend a night guard to protect your teeth.

With a little care and attention, you can easily maintain your new smile after your treatment with braces or Invisalign.  At our practice, we are committed to helping our patients achieve and maintain beautiful, healthy smiles.  If you have any questions or concerns about maintaining your smile after treatment, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team at Bryn Mawr Orthodontics.  We're here to help you keep your “forever smile” looking perfect!
